It turned out that the Milky Way has dozens of them, and the Andromeda Nebula has almost 20. These ultra-faint “dwarfs” that accompany their giant hosts are saturated with dark matter. Most of them show early star formation. Sky surveys such as the Pan-Andromeda Archaeological Survey (PAndAS) help find satellites around large galaxies. This time, the faintest and most compact satellite galaxy was “fished out” from its archive.
